Bio
The 28-year-old, joined on a permanent deal until the end of the 2024-25 season, adding experience, knowledge of the division and defensive versatility to Rovers’ ranks.
Born in Switzerland, Ribeiro represented Braga at youth level, before starting his professional career with Benfica, where he made his first team debut in a 3-0 victory over Real SC in December 2016.
Following a successful loan spell with Rio Ave, where he made his maiden appearances in the Primeira Liga, Ribeiro returned to Benfica and signed a new five-year deal with the Portuguese giants, before making his European debut in a 2-1 victory over Galatasaray in the Europa League in February 2019.
That summer, the full-back made a permanent move to Nottingham Forest, where he would spend the next two seasons playing regular Championship football, twice featuring against Rovers.
He started 27 league games in his first season at the City Ground, as Forest missed out on the play-off places by just goal difference.
He made 24 Championship starts the following season and also scored his first goal in English football – the opener in a 2-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday in December 2020.
In August 2021, Ribeiro signed a three-year deal with Polish top-flight team Legia Warsaw, who he helped secure second spot in 2022-23 and a third-place finish the following season, whilst also gaining further experience of European football.
He returned to Braga last summer – 12 years after leaving the club’s youth system – and made 15 appearances for the Portuguese club before moving to East Lancashire.
