Blackburn Rovers Sports College offers students fantastic opportunities to develop themselves both in and out of the classroom.

The College are hosting their next open evening on Wednesday 8th February 6.30pm start in the Darwen End at Ewood Park.

Young people attending the Sports College, in partnership with West Lancashire College, can study a variety of exciting different sport or education programmes including BTEC course and a University degree provided by the University of South Wales.

Boasting a 100% pass rate from the last academic year, the Sports College is holding an open evening on Wednesday 8th February starting at 6:30pm in the Darwen End at Ewood Park, with Head of Education Ockert Erasmus available to speak about the course options.

Students can also represent Blackburn Rovers in organised football fixtures against other local clubs, as well as participating in coaching.

Additionally, students have the chance to take part in trips abroad. This year, 34 of them enjoyed a week at Club La Santa in Lanzarote.

Erasmus said: “This year we took 34 students on the trip so that's the first years and second years, we’ve not got any university students this year. We open it up to all students, and some of the students have already said that they will join next year.

“We’re looking forward to the open evening on the 8th February, we’ve had quite a bit of interest and this is an international trip that no-one else does. It’s a massive selling point for us and it’s a unique opportunity for students to experience something they don’t get anywhere else, not only is it a week off college but they can do different sports.

“They can go cycling, go running, swimming, use the gym and the instructors are amazing, and they’re just having a good time with their friends and seeing tutors outside a professional environment.”

A student who went on the trip to Lanzarote added: “It was a good experience and a good get away.

“It’s good to get to know each other better and to do new things as it helps students get fit in a world class resort as well as enjoying themselves with freedom to do what they want because it can give the students an idea of a wide idea of different sports.

“It helps the Trust runs a trip like this as some students are shy and it helps them bond better with the other students as well as the staff and coaches who are there.

“I think it’s a good idea that you get to go away with college and spend some quality time with my mates. Students that went on this trip are lucky because not a lot of other colleges go on holiday with their college. Also, the teachers are flexible with what we can do which I feel made the trip better.”

Blackburn Rovers Sports College are also hosting a girls football tournament for local U15 teams on Friday 17th February at Witton Park in Blackburn.

The tournament will take place between 10am-1pm at Witton Park in Blackburn, and is a nine-a-side format, with a maximum squad size of 15 players.

We are looking forward to welcoming teams from around the local area to the event, which continues to showcase BRCT and Blackburn Rovers Sports College’s commitment to supporting grassroots women and girls’ football across Blackburn with Darwen.

We can also confirm Rovers’ Ladies player Jade Richardson will also be in attendance on the day.
