Blackburn Rovers Community Trust over-60s walking football were crowned champions of the inaugural Tom Cowans Memorial Cup last Sunday!

Rovers were one of eight teams to qualify for the finals day in Leeds, with the sides drawn in two groups of four, as the winner of each group progressed into the competition's final.

Kicking off the tournament with a 1-1 draw against Kingsmaid, where Ray Richards was on the scoresheet, Rovers earned their first victory in a 6-0 triumph over Leeds Morley, as goals came from Gareth Parry (2), Ian McCann (2), Richards and Tony Jones.

The result meant Rovers took on Barnsley's Leggy Mambos for a place in the final. Richards grabbed the decisive goal in a tight encounter to set up a fixture against Harrogate.

Following on from a goalless draw, with both sides limited to few clear-cut chances, the trophy would be decided through a penalty shoot-out.

Rovers' goalkeeper Bernard Crankshaw saved three out of four Harrogate penalties, as Parry and Gordon Arkwright converted from the spot which ensured a 2-1 win on penalties, and Rovers lifted the trophy.
