A solitary strike from Brad Lyons was enough for Rovers Under-23s to return to winning ways with an impressive victory over Wolves Under-23s at St George's Park in Burton.
Lyons' smart finish on the turn beat home stopper Andreas Sondergaard just before the half hour mark and that proved to be the winning moment in a tight game.
First team midfield pair Richie Smallwood and John Buckley both started at the FA's National Football Centre, whilst Wolves included experienced winger Jordan Graham in their lineup.
It was the hosts who started the brighter on the night, with Graham's inviting cross finding Chem Campbell in the area, but Joe Hilton was well positioned to save the attempt from the forward.
Renat Dadashov, who was playing for Wolves Under-23s for the first time since signing in the summer, tested Hilton with a long range drive, with the Rovers goalkeeper producing an excellent tip over to deny the Azerbaijan international.
Whilst Wolves had the better of the early stages, it was Rovers who took the lead on the 27th minute. Stefan Mols' ball inside found Lyons, who spun and sent a left-footed effort beyond the dive of Sondergaard and in.
The Danish 'keeper was alert after the break to stop Ben Paton from doubling Rovers lead from close range, in a half that saw the home side push for an equaliser.
The most notable chance fell to Campbell, but his effort was deflected wide as the time ticked away.
Wolves created one final opportunity in added time, but after Dion Sanderson's header caused havoc, substitute Boubacar Hanne couldn't beat Hilton, whose clean sheet remained intact.
Next up for Billy Barr's side is a home encounter with Crystal Palace in the Premier League Cup, with the tie scheduled to be played on Friday 17th January, kick-off 1pm at the Lancashire FA HQ in Leyland.
