The encounter came only two months on from the 4-0 defeat in the FA Youth Cup semi-finals against the same opponents.
And the signs looked ominous after the visitors opened the scoring just 12 minutes in through Alex Robertson.
The scorer continued his fine form in front of goal having netted four goals in City's 7-0 win over Derby County just a few days earlier.
However, Rovers rallied and grew into the game, and were rewarded for their efforts with only two minutes remaining.
