Rovers Under-23s’ pre-season preparations continued with a 1-1 draw against Rochdale at the weekend.
Having comfortably beat Huddersfield Town last time out, Rovers were left frustrated against a resolute Dale.
A fine goal put Rochdale in front against a Rovers side who were looking for back-to-back victories in their opening two pre-season outings.
Despite being a goal behind, Rovers never threw in the towel and grabbed an equaliser through young attacker Evan Cunningham midway through the second half.
And speaking after the game, Mike Sheron was left a little irked by his side’s display.
“We were left pretty disappointed in all honesty,” Sheron began.
"I felt that we took some real positives from the Huddersfield win last week, but felt we were a bit pedestrian in the way we went about our work.
“We want to be more of a technical side this season, but our passing wasn’t crisp, wasn’t fluent and it’s something that we need to improve upon.
“We have some young lads who are still getting up to speed with the schedule, but that’s the reality of things for everyone at the moment.
“It’s not so much the scoreline that’s left us frustrated, it’s the way we played and out mindset. It’s something that we don’t want to happen often,” he added.
“They’re a Category Three side, we’re Category One, so you have to give Rochdale credit for the way they played and scored a really good goal as well.
“It’ll be a great learning curve for us both as individuals and for the group as well.”
