The 23-year-old joined Rovers initially on loan from Northern Irish side Coleraine, with the deal being made permanent in January 2019.
Despite his tender years, Lyons made over 100 appearances for the Bannsiders after coming through their youth ranks.
He made his debut as a teenager in August 2014 and also has Europa League experience under his belt, having featured in the competition on four occasions.
The 2017-18 campaign saw the midfielder play over 30 games as Coleraine claimed an Irish Cup and second-place finish in the Premiership.
Lyons spent time on trial with Rovers in the summer of 2018, playing in the pre-season friendly at Kendal Town, and he has started the current campaign in fine form, netting twice in two league appearances.
In January 2019, Lyons joined Scottish side St Mirren on loan until the end of the 2018-19 campaign, and helped the club to survive in the SPFL during his time north of the border.
The Northern Irish youngster spent 2019-20 back at Rovers and regularly featured for Billy Barr's Under-23s side.
The beginning of 2020-21 was impressive for Lyons, who netter six goals in the final six Under-23s games of 2020.
His form led to calls from other EFL clubs, with Morecambe winning the race to take the midfielder on loan until the end of the campaign.
