Norway
Bio
The 30-year-old midfielder became Rovers’ second summer signing in 2023 when he joined on a free transfer from Dutch Eredivisie side Vitesse.
A player with vast experience of both European and top-flight football, Tronstad signed a three-year deal, which will keep him at Ewood Park until June 2026.
The Norwegian began his career in his homeland with IK Start, making his first team debut in May 2012, aged just 16.
Having helped Start win promotion to Norway’s top division and after making 23 appearances for the south-coast club, Tronstad joined Huddersfield Town in January 2014, aged 18, following a successful trial.
He returned to Norway in 2016, joining FK Haugesund, where he made over 100 appearances and played in two Europa League campaigns, before earning a move to Vitesse in January 2020.
A player who is comfortable in possession, with great technical ability and a superb passing range, the deep-lying midfielder made his international debut later that year, playing the full 90 minutes in Norway’s 1-1 draw with Austria in the UEFA Nations League.
After helping Vitesse finish fourth in his first season with the club, Tronstad started all 14 of their Europa Conference League games the following season, in which he also played an integral role in them securing a top-six spot in the league.
A virtual ever-present during his three years prior to joining Rovers, Tronstad made over 100 appearances for Vitesse, scoring nine goals.
Having initially struggled to get in the team at the beginning of his Rovers career, he soon became a key figure for the team and a popular figure in the dressing room and with the supporters.
He appeared 41 times in all competitions in 2023-24, with his solitary strike coming in the Emirates FA Cup in our dominant win over Wrexham at Ewood Park.
2024-25 was a great campaign for Tronstad, who grabbed his first league goals with a brace in the emphatic home win over Millwall and picked up the club's Player of the Year award for his efforts that season just a couple of weeks later.
