Rovers Under-18s suffered their first league defeat in nine games, going down 2-0 away to title-chasing Manchester City, who have gone all season at home unbeaten.
The hosts made a strong start and finally broke through a resolute Rovers defence five minutes before the break through substitute Josh Adam, who had only come on moments earlier.
City remained in the ascendancy after the interval and wrapped up the points 20 minutes from time when Micah Hamilton scored their second.
It was the first time Rovers had tasted defeat in the U18 Premier League since losing 4-3 at home to City’s title rivals and current league leaders Manchester United back in January.
Mike Sheron’s side won their next seven league games on the spin, before being held to a goalless draw by Stoke City last time out and they return to action on Tuesday when they host Newcastle United at Brockhall.
