Goals from Andre Godfrinne and Soiyir Sanali ensured Rovers suffered a home defeat to Stoke City's Under-18s at the Academy at the weekend.
Godfrinne opened the scoring for the visitors after only nine minutes of play, before flying winger Sanali added a second midway through the second period.
That left Rovers with plenty of work to do, with Mike Sheron instantly bringing on Luke Brennan.
The hosts were pressing to get back into the game, and did manage to pull a goal back late on in the encounter against The Potters.
Having come on in place of Sam Burns at half time, Chanka Zimba did make an impact by netting with five minutes remaining.
But it was to prove too little too late for Sheron's charges, who were on the wrong end of a narrow defeat on home turf.
With a break in the schedule, Rovers are next in action on Saturday 14th September, with an away clash at Newcastle United kicking off at 12.30pm.
Rovers currently situate 10th place in the Under-18s Premier League.
