Jalil Saadi scored a quickfire double as Rovers Under-18s drew 2-2 away to Newcastle United.

Rovers trailed at the break to Dylan Stephenson’s opener, before Saadi netted twice in the space of eight second-half minutes to put Mike Sheron’s side ahead.

However, Stephenson scored his second of the game 12 minutes from time to secure a share of the spoils.

After the game, Sheron said: “I think they surprised us, going with a back three, so it took us a bit of time to adjust and sort out what we needed to do.

“I was slightly disappointed by our first half performance because of that. We sat off them a little bit too much and they dominated possession.

“I was really pleased second half. We had a good chat, we got in their faces a bit more and we played the way Blackburn Rovers like to play. Hopefully we can do that a bit more often this year.

“We got two opportunities, with Jalil Saadi getting two good goals. He’s been playing in the number 10 position of late and he seems to be revelling in it, but he’s still got a lot more learning and development to do.”
