Rovers Ladies boss Gemma Donnelly praised the contributions of her two new signings – Fran Stenson and Danielle Whitham.
Both players signed late in the week and were thrown straight into the action, playing their part in a spirited performance against Aston Villa.
Stenson made a host of key saves during the game, while Whitham would have secured a debut assist, had Jess Holbrook converted her first-half chance.
“Fran kept us in the game,” Donnelly said speaking after the match.
“She pulled off some absolutely unbelievable stops early on which enabled us to pile on the pressure to try and get something right at the very end.
“Equally she’s played her part in our goal as well. She’s got quality in abundance and she’ll certainly add something special to us moving forward.”
Although she could only play 45 minutes at Villa Park, the Rovers boss was pleased to bring Whitham back into the fold.
“I’m thrilled to bring Dan in because albeit she’s been out of the loop for a couple of seasons at Blackburn, I know what I’ll get from her.
“Having worked with Dan in one of our title winning seasons, I’m super pleased to bring her back into the club and I’m looking forward to working with her again.
“She’s hard working, committed, energetic and an unbelievable utility player. So wherever you put Dan, she’s going to do a job for you.
“Not only does that offer competition against anybody in the squad but I know she’s a bundle of energy and she will run through a brick wall for the team.”
