Report: Arsenal Under-18s 2-3 Rovers Under-18s

Rovers pick up all three points in the Under-18s Premier League Cup encounter

28 October 2019

Chanka Zimba and Jared Harlock scored for the second game running as Rovers produced a stellar display to earn all three points away at Arsenal's Under-23s in game two of the Under-18s Premier League Cup.

The pair grabbed a goal each in the entertaining 2-2 draw against West Bromwich Albion a week earlier, and made it two in two games with strikes against The Gunners.

It was Arsenal who grabbed the early advantage in the encounter, however, with Mazeed Ogungbo climbing highest inside the area to head home from a well-worked corner routine, with Charlie Patino providing the assist.

But Mike Sheron's side battled back almost immediately. Less than two minutes later, Rovers regained possession on a turnover and played a lofted ball over our defence, allowing Horlock to race through on goal and fire into the bottom corner.

Rovers then went on to take the lead early in the second half through Brandon Lonsdale, before Chanka Zimba made it three with a simple finish from close range to really put the visitors in command.

Nathan Butler-Oyedeji pulled one back from a corner late on, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation for The Gunners as the visitors held their shape to secure all three points in Group A.

The result puts Rovers in third place in the group, level on points with table-topping Arsenal and second placed Chelsea.

Next up for Sheron's side is a home clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers Under-23s. The game takes place at the Rovers Academy on Saturday 23rd November, kick-off 12.30pm.
