Romania outing for Thompson

The left back is with Northern Ireland Under-21s in Romania ahead of tonight's encounter

14 October 2019

Lewis Thompson is back in action this evening as Northern Ireland Under-21s go in search of their first victory

Northern Ireland Under-21s are still yet to earn a three-point haul in Group H having drawn two and now lost one of their opening three games.

The Academy graduate played the full 90 minutes in the Euro Under-21s qualifier with Denmark earlier in the week, which saw Ian Baraclough's side suffer a narrow defeat.

The Danes took the lead on the half hour mark thanks to Andreas Poulsen.

It was a lead that the hosts took into half time, but Ian Barraclough's side battled back and grabbed an equaliser on 57 minutes through Jake Dunwoody at the Aalborg Stadium.

But just as it looked like it would end all square, Jens Odgaard popped up with the winning goal with four minutes remaining.

Romania have so far won once and lost once from their opening two games of the group, with Northern Ireland likely to leapfrog tonight's opponents should they win.

Kick-off this evening is at 6.30pm.

Good luck, Lewis!
