He's thriving playing for the Under-23s and has been in and around the first team picture for the majority of the campaign, but Joe Rankin-Costello is hunting for more.
The talented youngster scored again as Rovers booked their place in the next round of the Lancashire Senior Cup with victory over Everton in midweek.
He's found the net four times in seven outings in league and cup for the Under-23s so far this term, and made his senior first team bow earlier in the campaign in the Carabao Cup clash against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
But he's not done, and wants further first team opportunities to arrive at his door.
“It’s better to be in and play games with the Under-23s as you need to keep ticking over," he said.
“I’d love to play every game in the Under-23s and then sit on the bench to be an option for the first team every week.
“It’s been excellent working with the first team, but I’d like a few more chances. I want to get my opportunity and help the team if and when I can. That’s my aim this season.
“I’ve been welcomed in the first team environment, they’ve helped me a lot and it’s been easy because they’re all such great personalities.
“Playing in pre-season makes you a bit more comfortable and settles you in. I played plenty of pre-season games and that means you don’t get nervous when the bigger games come around," he added.
“I don’t mind where I play to be honest. I prefer to play on the left and cut in, and I can also play right back, but wherever the manager decides to pick me is something I’ll be happy with.”
