The wide variety of sports that we offer became widely apparent to Danny Graham and Richie Smallwood as we invited the Rovers favourites to come and play netball at St Peter's Primary School in Darwen!

The north eastern duo came and gave the sport a go as part of our Premier League Primary Stars delivery in the school, with Key Stage Two pupils getting one of their first tastes of netball alongside their football heroes, before a hugely popular Q&A in the school hall.

Both were on form on the court and in the hall, with Richie in particular showing some great leadership around the playing area and offering some motivational advice to the children about applying themselves correctly at school if they want to follow their dreams.

Catherine Curran, community sports and dance coach at Blackburn Rovers Community Trust, led the netball session and was pleased with how it played out.

"This was the first time that we'd offered netball to this particular class, so everyone was a bit new to it, including the players," she said.

"However, everyone quickly got into it and we had a very enjoyable session. It was nice to see the players talking the pupils though the game and encouraging them to get active - it's what this kind of visit is all about.

"St Peter's are always very receptive to our visits and well organised, which makes it a pleasure to attend. I think everyone will have gone home from school happy with the way the day ended on a high."

If your school is based in Blackburn with Darwen or one of its adjacent boroughs, Premier League Primary Stars could be the perfect accompaniment for the playground and classroom alike. To find out what it entails, email with your contact details.
