Serena Fletcher netted her first Rovers goal to help Rovers claim their first three home league points with a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

Natasha Flint added a second in injury time to secure the victory – which takes Gemma Donnelly’s side to within one point of the Eagles with two games in hand.

Palace were the first to threaten when Ella Rutherford smashed the crossbar. That served as a warning sign for Rovers, who soon kicked into action.

Flint saw Emma Gibson off her line and went for goal but the ball dropped the wrong side of the post, before the Palace keeper denied her when clean through.

Rovers continued to threaten as Saffron Jordan raced down the left, cut inside and looked to take the ball around Gibson, who got down to gather.

The Blues broke the deadlock two minutes before half-time. Fletcher sprinted onto Natasha Flint through ball and expertly finished into the far corner past the onrushing Gibson to score her first Rovers goal.

The second-half was a nervy affair as Rovers were desperate to hold onto their lead. Cherelle Khasaal found herself free in the box but managed to divert Bianca Baptiste’s cross away from goal.

Stenson was then called into action to stop Leeta Rutherford’s free-kick and deny Baptiste, while at the other end Flint was causing problems for the Palace back four.

And Arsenal loanee Stenson kept Rovers ahead, saving Ella Rutherford‘s turn and shot as well as parrying Baptiste’s effort out.

Saffron Jordan thought she’d given Rovers a two goal cushion but Gibson produced a stunning save to tip the ball over the bar.

That second goal came in the last minute of normal time. Flint moved the ball onto her left foot and struck it low and hard into the bottom corner.

Next up Rovers travel to Leicester City on Sunday, 2pm.
