Corry Evans appeared for 70 minutes as Northern Ireland played out a 0-0 draw with the Netherlands in Belfast on Saturday night.

Evans, who has 57 caps for his country, couldn't keep his the Green & White Army's automatic qualification hopes alive, with the Dutch taking the point needed that guarantees their place at the Finals next summer.

It was a good, resolute performance from the hosts at Windsor Park, and it would have been a better night for Northern Ireland had Steven Davis converted a first half penalty rather than blasting it over the upright.

Against a strong Dutch side that included the likes of Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk, Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt of Juventus.

Germany, who Northern Ireland will face next week, moved top of Group C, two points ahead of the Dutch, with a 4-0 home victory over Belarus, rendering Tuesday night's final fixture meaningless in terms of qualification.

Northern Ireland's place in the play-offs was assured by virtue of Sweden's victory over Romania on Friday night, with an away tie against Bosnia the most likely scenario as it stands.
