Jess Holbrook was named Ladies Footballer of the Year at Blackburn Rovers’ End of Season Awards night in Ewood Park’s Premier Suite.

It has been a stellar season for Rovers’ number six, who has played 35 games in all competitions, scoring nine goals and contributing 17 assists.

She has also won 10 opposition Player of the Match awards, to underline her quality in the middle of the pitch.

“Obviously I’m really delighted,” the 26 year-old said after receiving the award.

“I didn’t expect it so it’s a massive bonus, but I think it could have been anybody in the squad. We’ve all had a great season.”

Rovers’ vice captain has been part of a side who have retained both the league and League Cup this season as well as being in the Lancashire Challenge Cup Final once again.

“It’s been unbelievable. Last season we had a great season as well so to back it up again and retain the cup on Sunday, it was amazing.

“We set ourselves standards so high and we just want to keep getting better and better and keep that going.”

The former Manchester City midfielder has made 147 appearances for the Blues, scoring 37 goals in the process. But her appetite for the game is as great as ever.

“You lose count don’t you but I’ve been here four years now and I live and breathe it.”
