Rovers Ladies manager Gemma Donnelly has picked up the coveted Manager of the Year award at the FA Women’s Football Awards.
The annual end of season event held at St George’s Park celebrates the achievements of clubs and players in the women’s game.
And Rovers’ performance under the stewardship of Gemma Donnelly has been astonishing.
She guided the Blues to the FA WNL Northern Premier Division for a third successive season, winning the title with five games to spare.
The Blues finished 21 points ahead of second place, winning 23 of their 24 league fixtures, scoring 115 league goals in the process and conceding just 18.
Rovers also retained the FA WNL Cup, beating Crawley Wasps in the Final and won the Lancashire Women’s Challenge Cup for a record 13th time – and the fifth time in a row.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to win this prestigious award. It’s never something you expect,” Donnelly said.
“Obviously I’m hugely humbled by even the consideration of the achievement. And when you start out in a season your full focus and concentration is on meeting the team's needs and targets.
“So this is a further bonus to our unbelievable season. I’m enormously grateful for everyone who has played a part in the team.
“First and foremost, my full praise goes to the players for their continued commitment and loyalty after two seasons of huge disappointment.
“I wouldn’t have been able to achieve this without the support of the staff and volunteers. All of whom have the highest standards and encourage and support each other along the way.
“It’s those as a collective that have helped me achieve this.”
