Professional Development Phase Assistant Coach Mike Sheron was pleased with the point and the battling qualities shown from Rovers Under-18s in the 2-2 draw against Middlesbrough earlier today.
After going 2-0 down, Rovers showed brilliant character, with goals from Luke Brennan and Ben Pleavin earning a point at Rockcliffe Park in the north-east.
And discussing his side's display, Sheron admitted there were plenty of positives against the Teessiders.
“It was very good and I’m very pleased with the performance to be honest," he said after the encounter.
“I sensed that the lads were up for the game and there was a higher work ethic today.
“It was a great counter attacking goal for our first goal, Luke had a bit to do and put into the far corner with his left foot, which is something we've been working on with him.
“We were pushing for the equaliser and had to take risks. It was great to see Ben Pleavin scoring from 25 yards after beating his man.
"Ben was one of a few Under-16s players we had out there and I feel the young group performed well against a good Middlesbrough team.
“It’s not always about the result, but the game is about winning. However, it’s also about balancing that off with the performance as well.
“We had that motivation and we got our reward for that in the end."
Rovers are next in action against Stoke City Under-18s on Saturday 23rd March at the Rovers Academy.
