Report: Liverpool U18s 7 Rovers 2

It was a day of disappointment for Billy Barr's youngsters at the Liverpool academy

4 March 2019

A hat-trick from home hitman Bobby Duncan helped Liverpool Under-18s to a comprehensive victory over Rovers Under-18s.

After Vilius Piliukaitis had given Rovers an early lead on Merseyside, the hosts hit back through Duncan, before Fidel O'Rourke turned the score around.

Jalil Saadi levelled just after the break, before the Reds hit five further goals without reply to register a big win.

Rovers started the game well, and took the lead after only two minutes as a lethal breakaway from Jack Vale saw the Welshman's pass turned home by Piliukaitis.

But after Dan Atherton bravely denied Vale, the Reds soon went up the other end and equaliser through Duncan's emphatic volley.

Elijah Dixon-Bonner rattled the post from range and O’Rourke slid Cain’s cutback wide before the skipper made amends by rattling into the roof of the net just before the half hour mark.

Rovers recovered after the break, with Saadi firing home after connecting with Luke Brennan's good cross, before Sam Durrant was denied a goal against his former club by Atherton.

It looked as if the game was set to peter out, but after the hour the table-toppers stepped things up, to completely blow the visitors away.

Duncan scored from the spot on 65 minutes after Jake Cain was taken down in the box, before Cain made it 4-2 just three minutes later.

Soon after and Edvard Tagseth added a fifth, before O'Rourke found Duncan, who completed his hat-trick with a composed finish.

O'Rourke completed his brace in the dying embers of the game, as Rovers were blown away by five strikes in tough conditions on Merseyside.

Rovers are next in action on Saturday 16th March at home to Sunderland, kick-off 12.30pm.
