Latest loan round-up

It was a good weekend for defenders, as Scott Wharton, Matty Platt and Sam Barnes all record wins

4 March 2019

It was a mixed weekend for a number of our contracted players who are plying their trade away from East Lancashire...

A number of Rovers players are currently representing clubs away from Ewood Park, representing teams at a variety of levels in England and Scotland:

  • Paul Downing
  • Sam Barnes
  • Joe Grayson
  • Matty Platt
  • Scott Wharton
  • Sam Hart
  • Lewis Hardcastle
  • Lewis Mansell
  • Andy Fisher
  • Brad Lyons

We'll begin in League Two, where Scott Wharton enjoyed a scoring return to action at loan club Bury this weekend, as the Shakers continued their push for promotion in League Two.

The Blackburn-born Academy graduate, who will stay at Gigg Lane for the remainder of this season, netted his first goal for the club with a towering header in the Greater Manchester side's 3-0 home victory over relegation-threatened Macclesfield Town.

Elsewhere in the division, Joe Grayson was an unused substitute as loan club Grimsby Town suffered a 2-0 defeat to Cambridge United.

In League One, Sam Hart and Paul Downing both came away from the weekend with frustration.

Hart, who is on loan at Southend United, appeared for the full game in the Essex side's home defeat to Barnsley, losing 3-0 at Roots Hall.

Downing, who is with play-off chasing Doncaster, played for the full 90 minutes for the club in their home draw against Charlton Athletic at the Keepmoat Stadium.

North of the border, Lewis Mansell came on as a substitute for Partick Thistle, as the Glasgow-based side suffered defeat against Dunfermline Athletic away from home.

Elsewhere in Scotland, injury prevented Brad Lyons' involvement for St Mirren, who earned themselves a vital victory at home to Livingstone.

In non-league, Andy Fisher played for FC United of Manchester in a 2-2 draw with Hereford, whilst Lewis Hardcastle's 90 minutes for Barrow ended in defeat to Barnet.

Elsewhere, there was game time for young defenders Matty Platt and Sam Barnes.

Platt appeared for Southport in a 1-0 win over Guiseley, whilst Barnes continued his fine form with Marine, helping the Merseysiders to a point and a clean sheet away at Stafford Rangers.
