For the second successive game there was an Academy graduate making his debut in the first team on Saturday afternoon.
John Buckley followed on from Tyler Magloire in appearing for the first time in Tony Mowbray's first team, coming off the bench midway through the second half against Sheffield Wednesday.
The teenager, who was one of five Academy products on the pitch at full time, produced an accomplished display in midfield at Hillsborough, and despite the defeat, Buckley was thrilled to make his bow.
“It was a great moment and something I’ve been working towards since I joined the Academy," he admitted to iFollow Rovers after the game.
“I’m over the moon, to be honest. The gaffer told me to go on and do what I do for the Under-23s -make forward passes and impact the game.
“I was a bit nervous walking up to the touchline, but I felt alright once I got on the pitch. After the first couple of touches I felt I eased myself into the game.
“I loved it, playing at a big stadium, against a good team, it was just a shame the result didn’t go our way.
“I knew on the Friday that I was travelling. I wasn’t sure if I’d be in the squad, but I was told on Saturday morning that I’d be on the bench.
“I want to keep kicking on now until the end of the season. Hopefully I can continue and make some more appearances in the first team."
