Under-23s friendlies confirmed

Damien Johnson's side will play Clitheroe, Kendal Town, Southport and Lancaster City

Rovers Under-23s will face four local sides as part of their preparations for the 2019-20 Premier League 2 Division 1 season.

Damien Johnson’s side, who finished fifth in the top flight last season, will travel to Clitheroe, Kendal, Southport and Lancaster for games next month.

The dates, venues and times of the pre-season fixtures are as follows:

  • Clitheroe v Rovers XI
    Thursday July 18th
    Kick-off 7.45pm

  • Kendal Town v Rovers XI
    ST & B Accountants Stadium
    Tuesday July 23rd
    Kick-off 7.30pm

  • Southport v Rovers XI
    The Merseyrail Community Stadium
    Sunday July 28th
    Kick-off 1pm

  • Lancaster City v Rovers XI
    Giant Axe
    Wednesday July 31st
    Kick-off 7pm

Rovers Under-23s enjoyed an impressive maiden campaign in PL2 Division 1 last term, finishing above the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur in the table.

Johnson’s young charges also lifted the Lancashire FA Senior Cup for the first time since 2011 thanks to a 2-0 victory over Burnley in the final, whilst the likes of Tyler Magloire, John Buckley, Dan Butterworth and Joe Grayson all made their debuts for the first team.

The players will return for pre-season training at the end of this month, with the 2019-20 season expected to get underway in early August.
