New signing Christian Walton hopes to help Rovers enjoy an improved Championship campaign in 2019-20.
Rovers finished 15th in their first season back in the second tier last term and have strengthened the squad this summer.
Walton has been joined at Ewood Park by Stewart Downing, Bradley Johnson and Sam Gallagher, and the Brighton stopper believes Rovers have sufficient quality to be challenging towards the top end of the table.
"I've played against Rovers the last two seasons and you can tell they're a great outfit," said Walton, who has joined on a season-long loan from the Premier League side.
"I think with a few new additions this season then you're taking the team to that next level, with experience coming in.
"Obviously the hungry young lads that have played have also got experience at this level.
"Last year, it was a good finish in the end for the club, for a first season back in the Championship, and ultimately the manager and the club want to build on that and I think that shows with the signings that they've made.
"In the Championship, there's probably 14 or 15 teams who all think they've got a chance of getting out of the division, because of the calibre of the players playing in the league now and the quality of the different teams.
"I experienced that first hand last year, seeing some of the teams that you're playing against and the players that they're bringing in.
"I think the manager and the coaching staff want to improve on last season, which was a good season, and I'm looking forward to it."
