Tony Mowbray says Damien Johnson is a "wonderful coach" and is looking forward to working with him at close quarters.
Johnson joined as first team technical coach and head of player development at the start of this week, which will result in a closer working relationship with Mowbray and his staff.
And discussing the appointment of the former Rovers player and Under-23s coach, Mowbray believes Johnson has plenty of qualities which can only benefit the squad.
“Damien’s a wonderful coach," the boss began. "We watched him with the Under-23s and he’s very intense in what he does.
“We’re developing the training ground with some analysis booths and video areas and are trying to create a learning culture.
“I think that’s where Damien’s background is coming from to be honest.
"For us, making the smoothness of a transition from the development squad to the first team as easy as possible is a big thing.
“Hopefully Damien will enjoy things and we can improve everything.
“I can see, even in Austria, the young players migrate to Damien and have chats with him on strengths and weaknesses.
“It’s about gradual improvement and if the individual improves then so will the team."
