Preview: Blackpool v Rovers

A look ahead to the final friendly of pre-season for Rovers, which takes place at Bloomfield Road tomorrow

26 July 2019

Tony Mowbray's side have a final dress rehearsal ahead of the Championship showdown against Charlton Athletic, with a trip to Blackpool on the agenda this weekend.

Anything other than a defeat at Bloomfield Road will seal an unbeaten pre-season for Rovers, who have taken in tests away at Barrow, Mansfield Town, Rangers and Bury so far this summer.

Against a new-look Tangerines side, with ex-Rovers player Simon Grayson in charge, Saturday is expected to be another tough battle as Mowbray's men look to sign off pre-season with a win.

Grayson could well be up against son Joe, who may feature for Rovers on the coast, with Mowbray taking a strong squad for the short trip north.

New signing Christian Walton is expected to make his debut for the club after arriving from Brighton & Hove Albion this weekend, whilst there may be returns to the side for Darragh Lenihan, Corry Evans and Elliott Bennett, who all missed the midweek win over Bury.

The manager mentioned this week that an opportunity may arise for Dominic Samuel to make his return from injury after a year out of action, and the striker could be part of the travelling contingent.

The hosts could include a number of new signings in their squad, with former Rover Ryan Edwards likely to be one of them.

The defender arrived from Plymouth Argyle on a free transfer in the summer and could get a run out at his new home. Jay Spearing and Liam Feeney are others with links to Ewood Park who are expected to play a part tomorrow afternoon.
