Joe Nuttall is determined to get regular football in 2019-20, but knows that the battle to be one of Tony Mowbray's go-to strikers will be 'fierce'.
The 22-year-old got up and running for the campaign in the opening pre-season friendly of the summer against Barrow at the weekend, lashing home the winner just after the weekend.
He scored three times in 18 outings in all competitions last season and admits he does need to build on that game time when the regular campaign comes back around.
Speaking after Saturday's clash at Holker Street, the striker is up for the fight as the battle for places intensifies.
“My aim this season is for regular football," he confessed when previewing the upcoming Championship season.
"The boss has added more quality this summer and the competition for places will be fierce.
“The two new lads coming in will help the younger boys, certainly when sharing their experience.
"We have a few players with experience in the camp already – Charlie [Mulgrew], Corry [Evans], Danny [Graham], Benno [Elliott Bennett] and Dacky [Bradley Dack], to name a few.
“I think we showed in the first half of last season that we have the quality to compete with the top teams in the league.
“The aim is to be in and around the play-off places and be one of the top teams in this division.”
