Rovers Ladies continued their winning run with a 4-2 home victory over Sheffield FC Ladies in the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division.
Natasha Flint, Alex Taylor, Jess Holbrook and Kayleigh McDonald grabbed the Blues' goals, with Molly Havard and Ellie Hawcroft responding for the visitors on a bitter, blustery afternoon at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium.
It didn’t take long for Flint to score a trademark goal, as she picked up the ball 25 yards out with six minutes on the clock and smashed it into the bottom corner, to net her 29th goal in all competitions this season.
Holbrook made it two when Jordan set up the midfielder to finish first-time into the top corner.
It looked to be a comfortable lead, but there was a twist in the tale when Sheffield halved the deficit five minutes before the break. Havard managed to get in front of the Rovers defence to head home.
However, within a minute Rovers had re-established a two-goal cushion. It was a great finish from wing-back Taylor, curling a shot into the top corner to score her second goal in as many games.
McDonald got on the scoresheet in the second-half, when the ball fell to the defender at the back post from a corner. She took one touch before firing it into the near corner and ensuring Rovers would take all three points from the game.
There was to be a consolation second for Sheffield when Hawcroft capitalised on a defensive mistake to score from a tight angle.
But the result wasn’t in doubt and Rovers racked up a 12th successive league win.
Next Sunday the Blues turn their attention to the SSE Women’s FA Cup Fourth Round when they travel to face West Ham United Women at the Rush Green Stadium, (1pm).
