Tony Mowbray has ruled Charlie Mulgrew out of the trip to Brentford on Saturday, but aside from the skipper, has a full squad to choose from.

Dominic Samuel and Ben Gladwin remain long-term absentees, but Mulgrew, who has been injured since picking up a hamstring strain at the start of this year, is edging closer to a return.

The Scotland international trained with the squad today and will do the same tomorrow, but won't be travelling to the capital at the weekend.

“Charlie is pretty close now," the boss revealed ahead of the game at Griffin Park.

"He had his first full day of training back with the team. I’ve just had a chat with him and we’re going to give him a whole week of training to get up to speed.

“Taking him all the way to Brentford won’t be beneficial for him, and he’ll probably train tomorrow [Friday].

"But one session in a month doesn’t mean we will throw him straight back in, especially with the team doing well at the moment.

“He’ll stay this weekend, do his training, train next week and then we’ll see where he is."
