Damien Johnson was happy to see his side not come unstuck in the cup against Sheffield United for a second time this term, following a convincing win at Leyland.
Johnson's men came flying out of the traps in the Premier League Cup encounter, with Dan Butterworth's brace quickly following up Matty Platt's opener in a dominant first half.
And whilst the goals dried up in the second 45 minutes, the Development Squad supremo was thrilled to get the job done against the Yorkshire outfit.
The three points sees Rovers leapfrog The Blades in Group B of the competition and move into the top two.
“It was important in a game like tonight that we won," Johnson said ater the game.
"Looking back at the previous fixture against them, they started fast and caught us out with their intensity and did to us what we like to do to other teams.
“They were aggressive and had intensity and it was important to not get caught out again tonight.
“We started the game with the right intensity and never let them settle. We looked like we could create opportunities and win the ball back high.
“We got the early goals as well, which settled us down."
