It's now four consecutive wins for Rovers' Under-23s side, the latest of which was an impressive 1-0 win over Chelsea at Aldershot Town's EBB Stadium
The fine form has hauled Rovers off the foot of the table, with Joe Nuttall's penalty being enough to earn victory in Hampshire on Saturday against the Blues.
And speaking after the match, Development Squad supremo Johnson said the performance more than warranted the three points for his side.
"It was a good result for us, but the most pleasing aspect was our performance," he said.
"We thoroughly deserved to win the game and if anything, we're disappointed to only be 1-0 up at half time.
"We started the game well and pressed Chelsea, creating lots of opportunities, but only managed to convert the penalty.
"They came out stronger in the second half, but our shape and discipline was fantastic."
And after a Christmas break, Johnson was impressed to see his side return to action looking hungry and determined.
"It was a really good way to start the New Year off, because you're never quite sure how we'll respond after having three weeks without a game," he added.
"We could have lost a bit of momentum, but thankfully the boys worked hard and kept things ticking over. Our fitness levels were good.
"We have more belief at the moment. We started the season well, but things went against us with injuries and suspensions and the team changed a lot.
"But we always knew we could compete at this level and the lads have shown they can go toe to toe with the big teams in the division."
