Rovers are deeply saddened to learn that the club’s oldest supporter, Clara Aspin, passed away last night, aged 103.

Clara, who was born in January 1916, first attended a game at Ewood Park in 1927, at the age of 11.

Her favourite players included Syd Puddefoot, Tommy Briggs, Bill Eckersley, Alan Shearer and, most recently, Charlie Mulgrew, who paid Clara a surprise visit at her care home on her 102nd birthday to present her with a cake, flowers and card on behalf of the club.

The Rovers skipper, along with manager Tony Mowbray, also recorded some special video messages for Clara’s 103 birthday, which she celebrated last month.

Her granddaughter, Julie Phillips, said: “Thank you to Charlie and the club for giving her such wonderful memories.”

A Rovers spokesman said: “Clara was a truly inspirational lady, who had a real affection for the football club, which was great to see. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this sad time.”
