Rovers' Development Squad are back in action this evening and are back at Southport for the second time in a week to take on Everton Under-23s.
The pair clashed in the Premier League Cup last week, with the score finishing 1-1, with Dan Butterworth netting Rovers' goal.
This time around it's back to domestic action in Premier League 2, with the table-topping Toffees hoping to go further clear at the summit of the division.
Rovers come into the game in fine form and buoyed by last week's Lancashire Senior Cup semi-final victory against Accrington Stanley on penalties.
Two first team players in the form of Jacob Davenport and Harry Chapman could play a part, with the latter all but confirmed as being in the matchday squad.
It's expected that Johnson will go with a similar team to the one that started against Accrington, meaning Butterworth is likely to be leading the line.
Following Andy Fisher's loan move and Charlie Albinson's recent penalty heroics, it's likely that the goalkeeper will keep his place in the side.
A win for Rovers would see them leapfrog Manchester City and move up to eighth position in the Premier League 2 table.
The hosts could include defender Brendan Galloway in the lineup, who has appeared 21 times in the Everton first team since signing from MK Dons in 2014.
Kick-off at the Merseyrail Community Stadium is at 7pm.
