Damien Johnson was thrilled by the attitude and application of his young players after the Development Squad produced an assured performance to breeze into the last 16 stage of the Premier League Cup.
Braces each from Ben Brereton and Joe Nuttall followed on from an early own goal as Rovers ran out comfortable 5-1 winners against Doncaster Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium.
It was a near perfect performance from the team, which included the likes of Harry Chapman and Jacob Davenport in the line-up.
And speaking afterwards, Johnson was delighted to see his side dominate the encounter from start to finish.
“The result on Sunday gave us a chance to progress and we knew we had to win the game," he said.
"We got the job done. We played some good stuff and created lots of opportunities.
"It would have been nice to see us hit the back of the net more times, but the mentality and the attitude of doing things right was terrific.
“We kept creating chances which was good.”
It's the third time in as many years that Rovers have made it through to the last 16 stafe, and Johnson believes the team have the confidence to beat any team they are drawn against.
“We have come unstuck at that stage, but whoever we get, it’s another game for us, which is good for us," he added.
“Sometimes the games run out towards the end of the season. It will be good for the lads in terms of another competitive game, we will wait and see who it is and look forward to it.
“There’s no seedings, it’s an open draw, we’ll wait and see who it is and sure the lads will relish it.”
