A host of promising young players are flying the flag for Rovers’ Academy, having received international recognition during their burgeoning careers in blue-and-white.

Academy graduates Jack Vale and Lewis Thompson have both made their debuts at Under-21 level in recent months, for Wales and Northern Ireland respectively, whilst current scholars Jalil Saadi (Morocco), Flavien Boyomo (Cameroon), Isaac Whitehall (Republic of Ireland), Jake Garrett (England) and Zac Gilsenan (Australia) have also showcased their talents on a global scale.

A number of other players down the Academy chain have also pulled on their national colours in competitive internationals, friendlies and training camps this season and look set to have a bright future for both club and country.

Head of Academy, Stuart Jones, is extremely proud of Rovers’ production line of young international talent, saying: “I think it’s terrific for the football club overall, and especially for the Academy, when boys are called up by their countries.

“I think it’s recognition for all the hard work that the staff do within the Academy, both on and off the pitch, with the players and it’s fantastic for us as a football club to have so many players who have been recognised for the talent and the ability that they’ve shown.

“It’s really important for their development as young players, being in an international environment. They get to experience different training methods, different cultures and different ways of doing things. It’s all part of their learning, as they try to become professional footballers, so it’s really beneficial.”
