Preview: Sheffield United v Rovers

Tony Mowbray could make changes for this evening's Carabao Cup clash at Bramall Lane

27 August 2019

Rovers return to action tonight for match two of a three-game week, with Tony Mowbray's side heading to Bramall Lane to tackle Sheffield United.

The trip to the Steel City sees both sides take their eyes of their respective league campaigns, with the focus firmly being on the Carabao Cup clash, which is now at the second round stage.

Mowbray's expected to make changes following a busy schedule, with a number of fringe players expected to play a part against the Premier League outfit, who themselves are likely to tinker with the team.

“It's an opportunity for other players to play and I'm sure Chris will be doing the same for his squad," the boss told iFollow Rovers, when touching on the game against The Blades.

“We'll see how we do there before preparing for the game against West Bromwich Albion, back in the Championship.”

The game is expected to come too soon for Tosin Adarabioyo and Ben Brereton, who have missed the last few games with troublesome injuries, which aren't believed to be too severe.

That means Ryan Nyambe could slip into one of the centre back roles in place of either Derrick Williams or Darragh Lenihan, whilst Greg Cunningham or Amari'i Bell will battle it out for a left back berth.

Jayson Leutwiler could get the nod in goal, as he did in round one against Oldham Athletic, and there could be a recall for Richie Smallwood, who was sent off for Rovers on our last visit to Bramall Lane last term.

Opposing manager Chris Wilder has hinted in his pre-match press conference that former Manchester United starlet Ravel Morrison will start the game, whilst the same could be said for Billy Sharp and Oli McBurnie, who have both been utilised off the bench frequently so far this term.

Simon Moore could get a run out in goal in place of Dean Henderson, as Wilder aims to rotate his team, and the experienced pairing of Richard Stearman and Phil Jagielka could well be a partnership at the heart of defence.

Kick-off this evening is at 7.45pm and you can track all the action on iFollow Rovers and our social media accounty.
