Rovers' focus turns to the cup this evening with Oldham Athletic making the short trip to Ewood Park for the Carabao Cup first round encounter.

It's been a frustrating start to the term for Rovers, who have suffered defeats to Charlton Athletic and Fulham in the opening two games of the domestic campaign.

But Mowbray will see a test against Laurent Banide's side as a chance to really kick-start Rovers' season, and the boss is expected to name a number of changes for the clash against the League Two outfit.

Greg Cunningham is expected to make his debut for the hosts tonight, whilst Jayson Leutwiler could get a run out in place of regular number one Christian Walton.

Further alterations could see Corry Evans and Richie Smallwood play a part and there may well be appearances for youngsters, as John Buckley, Joe Rankin-Costello and Ben Brereton all aim for game time.

Danny Graham could put his hat in the ring to start up top having only appeared off the bench in the opening two games of the season.

For the visitors, one of Mowbray's old players in David Wheater could start. The pair briefly worked together during the manager's reign at Middlesbrough, prior to Wheater's move to Bolton Wanderers in January 2011.

Former Burnley flanker Chris Eagles will also be pushing for a place in Banide's lineup having been a substitute in the opening two League Two encounters for the Greater Manchester based club.

Rovers will be aiming for better fortunes against Oldham this time around having drawn against The Latics at Ewood in the last meeting.

After Duckens Nazon put Oldham ahead back in our League One season, goals from Charlie Mulgrew and Adam Armstrong rescued a point for Rovers.

Should the game finish as a draw after 90 minutes the clash will go straight to a penalty shootout.
