Following Damien Johnson's promotion to the Rovers first team this summer, Tony Carss will take control of the Under-23s for their opening game of the season in Premier League 2 tonight.

With the first team playing against Oldham Athletic tomorrow night, Carss is expected to be without a number of his Under-23s side for tonight's game.

Regulars from last term in the form of John Buckley, Joe Grayson and Joe Rankin-Costello are all expected to link up with Tony Mowbray's squad against The Latics and will therefore miss out this evening.

Dan Butterworth is injured and unavailable, whilst Tyler Magloire made the season-long loan move to Rochdale last week.

Brad Lyons is likely to be in a midfield two with young Under-18s playmaker Jalil Saadi, whilst fellow rookies Dan Pike, Luke Brennan and Sam Burns could also feature.

Louie Annesley, who set up Stefan Mols' later equaliser in the behind closed doors game against Burnley last week, will be in the starting XI.

Arsenal are the visitors to Leyland tonight, and were in a similar predicament to Rovers this summer, with Steve Bould taking the reigns from Freddie Ljungberg this summer.

Highly-rated youngster Emile Smith-Rowe is expected to play a part this evening, whilst reports today have also suggested that Rob Holding will be part of the travelling contingent.

Kick-off this evening at Leyland is at 7pm and supporters are welcome to attend.

We will be covering the game across our social media channels this evening.
