New captain Saffron Jordan believes Rovers are ready to test themselves in the Championship.

Following two seasons of heartbreak and falling at the final hurdle, the Blues were finally promoted to the second tier for the 2019-20 season.

And Rovers' number nine cannot wait to be leading the team out at Lewes on the opening day of the season this Sunday.

“We’ve been waiting three years for this to finally happen,” she said.

“It’s just been buzzing in training, everyone’s excited and anticipating it.”

“We’re really excited to step onto a Championship field and get what we’ve been working so hard for and getting the credit. I just can’t wait for it.”

Rovers have had a busy pre-season schedule in order to make improvements ahead of the big kick-off on August 18th.

“Fitness wise we’re all improving, obviously it’s a step up. We were always one of the fittest teams in the league below but now we’re going to come in and they’re a step ahead of us, so we’re going to be working hard on that.

“That’s why we’ve been competing against teams from the Super League in pre-season so we are sharp and used to playing against teams at that level. You have to test yourself against the bigger clubs.”

Ladies training has switched to the Senior Training Centre and Academy for this season and Jordan thinks the team are benefitting from the change.

“It’s good to see the crest up there and the facilities are really good. All the girls are just excited to turn up to training.

“We’ve got the gym facilities that we use and we’ve got this routine. It’s the step up in professionalism and we’re all ready to have that week in week out.”

Jordan is not fazed about having to make the longest trip of the season on the opening weekend.

“Some of the girls have already been talking about roommates! I think long trips away work in our favour because it’s good for team bonding.

“Considering we spend so many hours together during the week and more hours together over the weekend, it just shows how tight-knit we are and how excited we are for the first game.”

Tickets for the 1pm kick-off at the Dripping Pan are available to buy in advance online here. You can also purchase tickets on the gate.
