Lewis Travis and Bradley Johnson have been Tony Mowbray's go-to partnership throughout the Championship campaign so far.

The pairing have been the midfield double act for Mowbray in each of the first five Championship outings this term.

One's only 21 whilst the other is 32, but the understanding between the pair is growing as each game passes, with the duo offering solid protection in front of a back five that have kept three successive clean sheets.

“We train day in, day out, and I think a lot just think you turn up and play on a matchday, but a lot of work goes on behind the scenes to develop a partnership and develop an understanding," Travis told iFollow Rovers when asked about his link up with Johnson.

“He is so calm on the ball, can pick the ball up anywhere and pass it. We’ve been speaking about me dropping deeper and Johnno moving into the opposition box because he has a great header on him and a brilliant shot.

“He can add goals to the team.

“We speak about who sits and who goes in the lead up to games. He’s a talker and a fighter who always wants to win, and that really rubs off on everyone in the team.

“He’s competitive, as all the lads are. It’s good to have other players like myself who are just as desperate to win."

There may be over a decade in age between the two, and Travis is aiming to take on board everything Johnson knows in a bid to add it to his own game.

"Having someone like him alongside me allows me to pick up bits from him and learn," the youngster added.

“With me being young, there’s plenty to learn still. I’m not going to kid anyone, I know I’m not the finished article.

“He’s been there and done it and has bags of experience that I can learn off.

“Playing week in, week out is good for my confidence. If I can keep doing what I’ve been doing then it’s my shirt to lose.”
