Rovers ready for Reserve Cup Final

The Development team are looking to record a league-cup double

11 April 2019

Rovers Ladies’ Development team are targeting a historic double when they face Charlton Athletic Women on Sunday, (11am).

The young Blues have already wrapped up the FA Women’s National League Reserve Northern Division One title, retaining the trophy for a third successive season under the stewardship of Ellie Cash.

And now they are looking to complete the double by winning the League Cup.

Cash said: “We’ve enjoyed a fantastic season so far despite having a smaller squad this year, which is a huge credit to the players who have been retained.

“But also praise must go to those who have made the step up from the RTC. The players have all performed consistently throughout the campaign.”

The run to the Cup Final started with a 6-1 win against Loughborough Foxes before walkovers against Bradford and Sheffield United.

Cash’s side then beat West Bromwich Albion 3-2 in the Quarter-Finals before another comfortable 6-1 win against Newcastle United at the Semi-Final stage.

The young Blues also hold a fantastic league record, losing just one game all season. They've won 14 of their 17 league games, scoring 68 goals and conceding 17 in the process.

“The team have been solid against some brilliant opposition.

“It’s such a pleasure to manage a squad that is so willing to learn work hard and develop not only as individuals, but also for the club. There is a clear progression at Rovers linking the RTC and senior team.

11 players in the squad have either been part of the successful Development squad that won the league last season or have stepped up from the RTC this season.

“It shows that the clear pathway is proven to be successful to get us to the Final.

“We missed out on winning the cup last year, so let’s hope that history doesn’t repeat itself and we can have success from this game.”

It's an 11am kick-off at Rugby Town FC, with tickets priced at £5 for adults and £2.50 for concessions.
