Rovers made it three consecutive wins in the Championship to extend their unbeaten run over Queens Park Rangers to 15 games.
A goal in each half from Danny Graham and Bradley Dack earned all three points on the road, with QPR pulling a goal back late on through substitute Matt Smith,.
But it wasn't to blot Rovers' performance, which was excellent on the day in the west London sunshine, bossing the encounter against John Eustace's outfit.
There was just one change made by Tony Mowbray against the Hoops, with Jayson Leutwiler starting against the west Londoners for the second time this season, whilst the remaining 10 outfield players kept their place in the team after last weekend's victory at Nottingham Forest.
A lively start to the encounter saw both sides have chances to open the scoring, with Ryan Manning firing over for the hosts before Dack's attempt deflected over Joe Lumley's upright inside the opening five minutes.
Corry Evans hadn't scored a league goal in just over four years, and had to wait a little longer when his tame effort was smuggled behind by Lumley as Rovers hunted the opener.
Soon after and Rothwell's driven free kick was headed back across goal by Darragh Lenihan, but the ball agonisingly evaded Dack at the back post, with the playmaker ready to pounce.
But just a moment or two later Rovers were handed an opportunity to take the lead from the spot after Lewis Travis was felled in the box.
With no Charlie Mulgrew, up stepped Graham who slotted into the bottom right-hand corner, despite Lumley getting a touch on his slotted effort.
Graham almost bagged his and Rovers' second of the game before the half hour mark, but whilst Elliott Bennett's cross was perfect for the 33-year-old, Graham's headed agonisingly crept wide of Lumley's left-hand post.
The hosts did finally muster an opportunity with 10 minutes to go until half time, but Josh Scowen saw his powerful attempt held well by Leutwiler.
Just two minutes after the break Rovers grabbed their second of the afternoon as Dack moved one ahead of Graham in the top goalscorer charts with his 17th in all competitions.
After a superb cross from Armstrong, Dack's first header was instinctively saved by Lumley, but fell straight back to the 25-year-old who ended up walking the ball into the net from just a yard out.
Rovers had their opportunities to make the game safe, with Rothwell teeing up substitute Jack Rodwell with 15 minutes remaining, but the former England international saw his low effort diverted away for a corner.
Mowbray's men were looking professional in the way they were seeing out the game, with the impressive Osayi-Samuel placing an effort wide as Leutwiler and Rovers' clean sheet remained intact.
But that wasn't to be the case in the final minute as Luke Freeman's inswinging cross from the right was missed by Leutwiler and substitute Smith was there to flick home a header.
That made for a nervy final few minutes, but Rovers saw it out and earned a deserved victory to head back to East Lancashire with another three points.
