Rovers boss Tony Mowbray has made one change from the last league outing at Stoke City for today's clash against Nottingham Forest at Ewood Park.

Paul Downing makes his first appearance in the Championship this season, starting at centre back in place of the suspended Derrick Williams.

The game comes too soon for regular captain Charlie Mulgrew, who isn't risked following a calf injury, with Elliott Bennett taking the armband against the Reds.

Ben Brereton is ineligible to play against his parent club until his move to Ewood is made permanent in January, so the 19-year-old isn't included.

For Forest, the experienced Danny Fox will be captain, whilst the much-travelled Lewis Grabban will lead the line for the visitors.

Rovers: Raya, Nyambe, Lenihan, Downing, Bell, Reed, Evans, Smallwood, Bennett (c), Dack, Graham.

Substitutes: Leutwiler, Rodwell, Armstrong, Rothwell, Travis, Conway, Palmer.

Nottingham  Forest: Pantilimon, Fox (c), Guedioura, Colback, Grabban, Carvalho, Cash, Robinson, Janko, Lolley, Hefele.

Substitutes: Steele, Watson, Murphy, Osborn, Dawson, Darikwa, Dias.
