Jack Rodwell finally made his Rovers first team debut on Tuesday night and Tony Mowbray was pleased with what he saw from the former Everton and Manchester City player.

Rodwell, who signed for the club last month, has made good progress in recent weeks, and following a run out for the Under-23s last Monday against Arsenal, was rewarded with a first team opportunity at Bournemouth.

The 27-year-old showed glimpses of his quality, calmness and composure on the ball, playing in a midfield role against the Cherries.

And Mowbray was content with the former England international's performance at the Vitality Stadium.

“I’m pleased for Jack. It’s good that he’s back," Mowbray said after the game.

“He’s been getting himself fit, getting up to speed and trying to integrate himself into our club at this moment in time.

“You have to put it into context that it’s probably his first start really in a year or so.

“But from what I’ve seen he’s a good professional, a good lad who is working hard. He understands the demands we put on our team and he knows he has to fight to get into the side on a regular basis.

“What I saw tonight is that quality and the fight to get into our team. Let’s see how he gets on in the near future."
