Rovers starlet Ben Brereton made his England Under-20s debut last night, but missed a penalty as the Young Lions suffered defeat to Netherlands Under-20s.

England took the lead through Arsenal's Eddie Nketiah, and Brereton had a chance to double the tally soon after, but couldn't put away the spot kick.

The hosts battled back after half time, with Manchester United's Tahith Chong equalising just after the hour at the home of KVV Quick Boys.

Dylan Vente scored a penalty later on before Ferdi Kadioglu added gloss to the scoreline with only two minutes of the encounter remaining in the friendly match.

North of the border, Charlie Mulgrew played the full 90 minutes for Scotland in their 2-0 UEFA Nations League clash against Albania at Hampden Park.

Both goals came in the second half, with Steven Naismith scoring after Berat Djimsiti had put the ball in his own net, to get Alex McLeish's side the perfect start to life in Group C1.

Midfielder Corry Evans will be hoping to feature for Northern Ireland tonight, as Michael O'Neill's side play Israel in Belfast.
