Westwood Primary School have found the recipe for success after teaming up with Blackburn Rovers Community Trust.
For the Clayton-le-Woods school welcomed Rovers stars Craig Conway and Jack Rodwell for a lesson on nutrition, as part of the Premier League Primary Stars programme.
The midfield duo answered a range of questions from the excited youngsters relating to the body and healthy eating, before taking part in an entertaining head-to-head quiz.
Jack, who has two young children himself, said: “Myself and Craig are here with Blackburn Rovers Community Trust, who have been teaching Year 5 about nutrition, so we’ve come along to take part in a Q&A and answered some questions from the kids.
“We’re just trying to give them tips on what we eat for pre-match meals and why we eat certain things, but to be honest I think they know more than us anyway!
“It’s always nice to see the excitement on their faces when you come to events like this and that means a lot to us.”
Danny McGregor, Primary School Education Officer for the Trust, added: “This is part of the Move and Learn programme, which we deliver in a number of schools around Blackburn, Darwen and surrounding areas, where we learn about what’s good for the body and what makes it tick.
“The players are really good role models, especially being athletes, so they can back up what I’m trying to say and also it gives the kids something a bit special to work with.
“It’s absolutely phenomenal to have this link with the local community and to have the players on board too, it really helps us out and backs up what we’re doing, because they can offer their expert opinion.
“The whole thing is like a well-oiled machine really, with everyone working well together.”
