Rover The Dog was excited to welcome two special visitors from the world of football mascots on Monday evening as the 'Mascots 92 in 92' #FootballUniteForDemi challenge rolled into Blackburn.

He was on hand (or should that be paw?) to say hello to two colourful characters who are normally local rivals, but currently working together for a very worthy cause - Grimsby Town's Mighty Mariner and Lincoln City's Poacher The Imp.

They've challenged themselves to visit all 92 Premier League and EFL stadia in just 92 hours, with the Ewood Park visit falling on the first day of their quest.

The message behind their mad motorway dash is to support the sad circumstances that have befallen brave Demi Knight, an 11-year-old girl from Louth in Lincolnshire, who has a Medulloblastoma brain tumour which has returned a year after previous cancer treatments appeared to have got one top of the problem.

As such, her family - and the intrepid charity team - are trying to pull together as much money as possible to help cover the costs of her proposed life-saving treatment in the USA and Poland.

The Blackburn Rovers commercial team chipped in with their bid to help by donating a signed home shirt for use in ongoing fundraising events, while supporters who can spare any sort of contribution towards the campaign are invited to [visit the online donation portal, which can be accessed here.

Best of luck to the mascots (and/or their alter egos!) as they continue their quest by heading south throughout the course of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in a race against the clock.
