Tony Mowbray is delighted to tie down skipper Charlie Mulgrew after the influential defender penned a new two-and-a-half-year deal with Rovers.
The Scotland international signed fresh terms with the club earlier today to extend his stay in East Lancashire until the summer of 2021.
And the boss was beaming to keep hold of his captain, who he says is a born winner in whatever he does.
“It’s an important deal for the team and the club. The biggest impression that Charlie has set on me is the fact winning every five-a-side game is important to him," the boss told iFollow Rovers.
“Every shooting and crossing drill, when you see him throwing his body on the line, you can see the intensity he puts into every training session.
“The standards of punctuality, driving the club from the dressing room and making sure everyone is on time for meetings, that’s Charlie for you.
“Every single team has individuals who lead the dressing room, people who live their lives with the right morals, values and the demands they put on the rest of the group.
“He deserves the reward of a new contract."
And although he's now 32, Mowbray believes Mulgrew still has plenty to give Rovers over the next two-and-a-half years.
“With Charlie, his career hasn’t been built around certain attributes. He’s never really been blisteringly quick, but he has a wand of a left foot and has a huge heart," the boss added.
“He trains like a trojan every day and wants to win matches. Every footballer you have you weigh up the attributes and what they need to work at, and I think with Charlie he has more attributes you want than he doesn't."
